The Report Return with Personal EP ‘Everything Life Throws’

‘Everything Life Throws’ is a deeply wholesome and honest EP. Not meant to be groundbreaking or experimental, the record focuses on relatable storytelling and simple, yet functional pop-rock arrangements, resulting in a wonderful record that will likely appeal to a wide variety of listeners. Over four compelling tracks, we get a glimpse of The Report’s vivid personal experiences, simply collecting thoughts and obstacles of daily life – the EP is certainly aptly titled.

Hailing from Kingston Upon Thames, just outside of London’s dazzling music scene, the group has been active a fair bit over the past few years, with their last substantial offering being released in 2023 (‘Blues Horses’ EP). ‘Everything Life Throws’ largely continues on the same theme, although the songwriting feels more evocative and overall nostalgic, especially in ‘Voices’ – a delightful piano-powered ballad – and in the pop-lenient anthem ‘In This Together’.

‘Not Over’ introduces a charming steel pedal guitar and Americana influences, still not matching the uplifting energy of opener ‘What You Don’t Know’. Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, The Report explain: “It is about the precarious, fragile nature of the world we are in, mixed with a cautious – even defiant – optimism that we can rebuild our lives and face down some of our worst times if only we tackle it together.”
