James Davis is the brainchild behind the brand new California-based supergroup The project. Known for his previous work as lead guitarist for the band Shameless, James has now assembled a team of seasoned professionals to help bring The project to life. ‘Best days’ is the band’s debut single, and you quickly realise just why the act has been labelled a supergroup. Crisp, clean, and masterfully assembled, it’s a tune that draws inspiration from every corner of the rock ‘n’ roll realm.
Electric guitars skillfully switch between Blink-182-esque riffs and more hazy, dreamy ones that bring to mind The Smashing Pumpkins. Later on in the track, a clear love for bands like Rush and Yes shines through beautifully, as The project effortlessly showcases their diverse musical arsenal and ease of navigating different elements and styles. With Shameless power vocalist Jeff Plant stepping up to the mic, he delivers a spellbinding performance that is truly befitting of his surname.
Promising us a polished and electrifying collection of songs, the band plans on releasing their debut album in early 2024. They say it’ll be “a non-stop feel-good ride through the worlds of classic hard rock and pop”. Myself and the team cannot wait to hear it!
