The Miller Test Continue Experimenting on New Album ‘Double Country’

‘Double Country’ is, hands down, one of the most interesting, inventive, and eclectic albums that I’ve heard all year! Courtesy of London-based outlaw art-rockers The Miller Test, their third record sees the band produce, in their words, “brasher, peskier, and poppier” tunes compared to previous releases. Take the album’s dark and feverish opener ‘Crows on the Scaffold’ for example. A fuzzy and layered stoner rock anthem, you just know you’re in for something sonically daring and electrifying as the record unfolds.

‘Like a Stranger’ is the album’s second track and the listener is now immersed in a catchy little number that the act aptly describes as akin to a Eurovision entry by The Carpenters. Hey, I told you they were eclectic! The laidback and hypnotising ‘Country Sleep’ then follows ‘Like a Stranger’, and you really have no idea what to expect next. It’s an exhilarating experience that is rarely encountered in today’s musical landscape, and just showcases the band’s unparalleled experimental spirit!

Other cracking songs that stood out to me were the truly beautiful ‘Sin in Question’, ‘Tennessee’, and the record closer ‘Country Blood’. Working alongside producer John Winfield, (Jimmy Somerville, Paul Mosley, Delta Saxophone Quartet) The Miller Test have cooked up an absolute winner!
