We have been writing extensively about The Marsh Family – and we are not the only ones. Taking the world by storm during the pandemic, the English group managed to offer a mellow, positive take on collective artistry, building intricate vocal arrangements and prolific instrumentals under their family-based dimension. It’s worked well: boasting a string of appearances on celebrated shows – such as Good Morning American and Jimmy Kimmel Live – The Marsh Family has drawn the attention of tastemakers and normal people.
‘Universal Child’ is the project’s latest effort, a wonderful cover of an Annie Lennox song. Originally released in 2010, the track now gets a soothing, festive livery from The Marsh Family, although the ‘festive’ factor is kept under a tight leash. Mainly, this is a very evocative and poignant record, as any respectable ballad should be. The family’s collective vocals are the perfect match for such a vibrant offering.
What’s more, the song will be used in a global campaign by charity Save The Children. Speaking about the inspiration behind the release, they explain: “We have always loved the Annie Lennox original and thought it was the perfect song for our return to the studio, in time for Christmas. We brought a load of instruments and argued a bit about who and what went where (especially the bells), but we’re really excited about sharing the end result.”
