We previously described them as having a “seriously unique and eclectic sound”, a declaration to which we stand, once more, behind. Following up on previous effort ‘¿Dónde Está Santa Claus?’, Portland rock outfit The Mars McClanes returns with their first release of the year, the heartfelt ballad ‘Be Still’.
It’s hard to express the way the record seems to embrace the listener, wrapping him into warm, relatable and nostalgic tones. We can always try, though: ‘Be Still’ exudes kindness, understanding and a sense of comfort. In a way, it’s a poignant refuge where we can all rest, perhaps finding inspiration and solace.
Musically, it’s just an awesome piece. Built upon acoustic guitar and mellow piano, the track soon evolves into a more dynamic soundscape, the perfect musical companion for The Mars McClanes’ mesmerising and evocative lead vocals. Blending electronic and acoustic elements, the track is an atmospheric, thought-provoking, and cathartic exploration of the struggles of finding inner peace in a fast-paced world. Whether it be two hungover people trying to make it through the morning after a big night out, or a more profound look at the human experience, the song has something for everyone.
While The Mars McClanes have been performing together for over a decade, ‘Be Still’ is yet another piece of evidence demonstrating they have something real to say. Join us in celebrating them.
