Louisiana-based outfit The Links unleashed their debut single ‘When You Really’ nearly ten years ago. They’ve been gigging and releasing music ever since, and have built up a humble and devoted fanbase along the way. At the turn of the decade, the band suddenly pivoted in a bold new artistic and visual direction, showcasing a more post-punk and shoegazy sound, which leads up beautifully into their latest single ‘elvira’.
Drenched in reverbed guitars, alluring basslines, and the emotion-laden vocals of Jack Morrison, ‘elvira’ drifts effortlessly between melancholic introspection and driving intensity. It’s brooding and hypnotic and full of heart. It’s wonderfully stitched together too, delivering just the right energy at the right time.
The Links have long admired acts like Deftones, Radiohead, and Queens of the Stone Age. In recent times, however, they’ve also turned to outfits like Interpol and The Strokes for inspiration. It’s this gloriously eclectic set of influences that results in a sound both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
‘elvira’ has stolen my heart with its raw passion and magnetic pull, and I hope it’s the first of many new tracks The Links deliver this year!
