‘Hotel Jugoslavija’ is, undoubtedly, one of the most intriguing and downright fascinating tunes I’ve heard in a while. It’s the brand new single from the Brooklyn-based act The Library Is On Fire and the second single that they’ve released since breaking a nine-year musical hiatus. Featuring an exceptional collaboration with the iconic Mike Watt, celebrated for his contributions to legendary bands like Minutemen, Iggy and the Stooges, and Sonic Youth, the track transports you to the golden era of lo-fi guitar rock. Fuzzy, gritty, and a little rough around the edges (in a good way), ‘Hotel Jugoslavija’ harks back to the band’s early work that saw them resonate with fans and critics alike.
Described by some as having “the melodies of Guided by Voices and the guitar wall of Dinosaur Jr.”, The Library Is On Fire proudly boasts that their former bass player is now actually a member of Guided by Voices. The band keep rather good company, and I believe that’s intrinsically tied to their distinctive music and original sound.
With an album planned for release sometime next year, as well as lining up several live shows, this indie-rock act has returned with a fire in its belly. I cannot wait to hear more from this talented lot!
