Do you know what makes a record much better? A compelling story behind it. With ‘Life Lessons’, we have it all: fierce and punchy punk-rock matter with an anthemic character, great musicianship skills, and a meaningful lyrical outlook. And, an empowering origins story. Penned by Salt Lake City-based outfit The Last Gatsby, the track delves into early-2000 college punk flavourings, yet giving it a contemporary stamp.
Returning after a long hiatus, The Last Gatsby were once a rising phenomenon, taking part in the Warped Tour in 2014 and supporting the likes of Cartel, Knuckle Puck, and Tiny Moving Parts. Unfortunately, the group’s lead singer, Josh Paul, was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018. Since then, he’s undergone a few surgeries, and yet, the disease came back earlier this year.
‘Life Lessons’ represents The Last Gatsby’s willingness to make the most of their deep-rooted love for music, despite the many challenges along the way. The single feels exactly like that: an all-out masterpiece that’s electrifying and uplifting, featuring bright and resilient lyricism which will relate to a wide public out there.
