You’ll find heaps of articles about international outfit The Hybris on our platform. The last time we wrote about them we were celebrating ‘Checkmate in Two, Donnie’, a politically charged effort highly critical of the Republican party and Donald Trump. It’s safe to say that things haven’t gone their way since then… like we all know. Fear not, The Hybris are back, catering to our needs for rebellion and resistance.
Collecting old singles and brand new episodes, ‘t h r e e’ is out today. Packed with twelve tracks, the record opens with a jazzy double bass and prophetic spoken words, instantly setting the tone for what will be an honest, upfront lament of our current political landscape, especially the American one. It all makes sense when taking into account that The Hybris define themselves as “Ringo Rabbit, Beanie Bison and Malcolm Mandrill – three wannabe superheroes on a mission to save the world.”
We are not so confident they can truly save our world, this time around. It might be beyond repair. What we know though, is that their meaningful songs can serve a healing purpose, reminding us all of where the truth lies, and helping us stand up to darker forces. From a sonic standpoint, ‘t h r e e’ is all wrapped up in industrial alt-rock, with a certain electronic component too. Vocals are dynamic and vibrant, the perfect match for such loud themes.
