I am now pretty familiar with The Heroic Enthusiasts, and it’s always a pleasure to write about them. Thinking about the project, I instantly envision new wave and 80s pop: akin to the likes of Depeche Mode, among others, the Rochester-based creatives successfully blend intricate synth-powered arrangements with lush and icy guitar tones. ‘Wake Me When It’s Over’ is the perfect example of it.
An anthemic and intense single, the record finds its hypnotising identity in a bass-heavy production, a sonic panorama that’s ever-evolving and melancholic. The Heroic Enthusiasts’ deep and dark vocals are a perfect pairing for such a vibrant offering. Headed by James Tabbi and Thomas Ferrara, the duo has been enjoying a fruitful partnership with legendary producer Stephen Hague.
‘Wake Me When It’s Over’ anticipates an upcoming album, ‘Illuminate’. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, the American pair explains: “As we began working on this new record and sharing our ideas and sketches, Stephen began to rifle through some song seeds of his own, and before we knew it, we were in a deep and wonderful dive of co-writing.”
