The Heroic Enthusiasts Celebrate Marc Almond in ‘Tears Run Rings’

The Heroic Enthusiasts don’t just take inspiration from the 80s: they fully embrace them. Celebrating a decade that has shaped modern culture, the duo from Rochester, NY releases period-corrected records, delivering catchy nuggets of joy that would feel perfectly at home in any pop chart from 1987. ‘Tears Run Rings’ is the strongest evidence of that: originally published by legendary 80s icon Marc Almond, the song is now given a respectful makeover by The Heroic Enthusiasts.

Born out of a collaboration with music production company Coitus Interruptus, the record sounds pretty faithful to the original, although with a more intense outlook, giving away its modern character. To be fair though, the American duo’s vocals sound quite close to Almond, in what is a heartfelt tribute to classic British synthpop and new wave. What’s more, the track was produced by Stephen Hague (producer of New Order, Erasure and Peter Gabriel, among others).

Speaking about the record, The Heroic Enthusiasts explain: “The song aligns perfectly with our predilection for love song lyrics with a dark and political bent”.
