The Gilhoolys Returns with Indie-Rock Gem ‘Superficially Obscene’

There has been a curious trend in the last few years, involving unknown bands from the past suddenly getting attention. Perhaps is a product of the tumultuous last few years, prompting us all to look at the past with nostalgia and desire. The result is the resurgence of forgotten musical outfits, including Scottish 90s heroes The Gilhoolys. Delving into their history, it’s clear how they were once on their way to the top. Active in the same scene as the likes of Travis and Teenage FunClub, they were once regarded as the “Next Big Thing From Scotland”.

Now, The Gilhoolys celebrate their music being placed at the forefront of the Scottish music panorama once again, doing so by releasing a stunning new single, ‘Superficially Obscene’. In it, we’ll find the energy we thought was lost. Instead, it was with us all along, just buried under the constant passing of time. A stunning slice of indie-rock stylings, blessed by The Gilhoolys’ charming vocals and nostalgic guitar work.
