When The Revered himself Jon McClure is calling you his new favourite band, and you’re working alongside Oasis and The Darkness producer Nick Brine, you’re clearly onto something! Introducing The Chase, an indie-rock foursome based in Nottingham who are earning a serious reputation for themselves all over the UK. Their gritty and honest debut EP ‘Not The F*cking Game Show’ was warmly received last year, and now they’re back with ‘Bonzo Bonanza’. Showcasing a different and more quirky side to their sound, it’s a five-track EP that demonstrates the band’s willingness to get experimental and inventive.
The self-titled opener has me intrigued instantly. Exhibiting a whimsical quality that brings to mind the circus, or a carnival, ‘Bonzo Bonanza’ sets things up beautifully. It creates anticipation and an energetic atmosphere, and The Chase could not have picked a better tune to start proceedings with.
The EP’s second track ‘Trumpet’ has been out for a few months now as one of the singles. Busting out some ska and the brass this time, it’s an upbeat and infectious song that illustrates the band’s musical expertise and versatility. Three more tunes round up the latest offering from The Chase, and there’s honestly no telling just how far these guys can go!
