Offering us a glimpse into their rich and eclectic future, London rock outfit The 150 Friends Club unveils their latest release, ‘Giver Of Live’ EP. Boasting a certain grandeur quality, the record showcases material that feels solemn and epic, the kind of inspired storytelling that could soundtrack a movie. In fact, the EP is bound to be part of a larger album coming later this year, configuring itself as a rock opera. If ‘Giver Of Live’ is anything to go by, we are in for a real treat, especially at a time when concept albums seem to have been consigned to history.
Introduced by ‘Sinner & Saint’, the record starts with elegance and classic flair, soon leaving space for intimate and introspective lyricism. The alternating male/female vocals are a welcome addition to an already powerful anthemic track. ‘Giver Of Live (An Ode To Mothers) seems to be the strongest song in the collection, conceptualizing the underlining theme of the EP, a testament to the strength and resilience of mothers everywhere, and a celebration of the unconditional love they provide.
‘Beautiful Child’ and ‘Lover Of Your Life’ takes the record to a close in cinematic fashion, continuing the lyrical journey initiated by The 150 Friends Club. The EP is a further step towards the group’s upcoming rock opera, ‘Preach’. Speaking about the inspiration behind their work, the band explains: “The album is an epic, rock opera-type look at the whole business of raising vampires (ie, children). It also draws on biblical language, and much like the bible, is not afraid to shed some blood. Unlike the bible though, it does have the occasional spot of humour.”
