While they have been active for merely a year, Texan indie outfit Charley Horse feel already like an established reality. Perhaps they are: after a plethora of singles and two EPs, the group has showcased greatly what they are made of. Dreamy indie-rock drenched in pop tones. But not only: truthfully, Charley Horse started as a psych and lo-fi-influenced outfit, then shifted to a more down-to-heart, minimalistic indie imprint, as shown in their latest EP ‘Foothills’.
It is from that exact record that we are able to dive into ‘Ball cap’ a glorious and uplifting piece with dazzling guitar riffs and groovy drums. Vocally, the band really reaches alt-pop greatness, delivering a single able to connect with both sides of the audience: the mainstream and the alternative one. The final trumpet solo really pushes things forward, echoing that witty eclecticism Charley Horse are so fond of.
Comprised of Lincoln Dunn, Doug Finch, and Glenn Gomez on guitars and the driving rhythms of Jordan Garrett on bass and Kevin Cavanagh on drums, the group is a force to be reckoned with – not only for their current records but also for the immense growth and evolution they have so bravely championed.
