We have a stunning band for all of you nostalgic out there. Fed up with the current state of affairs in the music industry? Tired of dazzling synths, ethereal textures and whatnot? Well, the answer is almost definitely going to be TELGATE, classic rock outfit with a knack for fierce, raw energy and unapologetic, rebellious lyricism. Emerging from the Welsh’s bucolic lands, the group also champions a loud and proud queer identity, taking ownership of a genre that we wouldn’t necessarily expect as a fertile source for community innovation.
‘GAMMON’ is TELGATE’s latest effort, the second single to be released in what appears as an important and productive year for the Cardiff-based rockers. Active since 2019, they have been sporadically sharing music, although it’s only now that we get a cohesive collection of work – and judging by it, we are in for great and bright things.
Introduced by a messy and intense drum groove, ‘GAMMON’ soon jump into a bluesy guitar riff, before being joined by TELGATE’s lead vocals, gritty yet powerful and dynamic. Distortion is not up to the max, with the record having a saturated feel as a whole. A true classic track that demands the listener’s attention, ‘GAMMON’ seems to be embracing a certain glam-rock attitude, but with a fresh and modern edge that sets it apart.
