Tamar Berk Returns with Sweeping New Album ‘Good Times for a Change’

Named after a line from her favourite tune of The Smiths, ‘Good Times for a Change’ is the brand new (and fourth) full-length album courtesy of California-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tamar Berk. An eclectic and wide-ranging twelve-track offering featuring some incredibly gifted collaborators, Berk takes the listener on a journey through a rich blend of genres and styles. Crossing a diverse landscape of musical influences, each song offers a unique sonic experience.

We begin with ‘Good Impression,’ an 80s-90s new-wave pop-rock piece that is deeply infectious and sticks in your head after just one listen. ‘That’s Not a Lie’ then steps up to the plate in a similar rocking fashion with expertly layered vocals and some crunchy electric guitar work.

‘Book of Change’ brings about a change of pace, showcasing Tamar’s ability to seamlessly transition into a softer, more contemplative vibe without losing momentum. The wistful and autobiographical ‘Chicago’ would fit perfectly into an episode of The Bear, while ‘I Don’t Mind’ serves as Berk’s take on The Beatles’ ‘A Day in the Life’.

Other personal favourites include ‘Artful Dodger,’ ‘Millenium Park,’ and the record’s closer ‘Comin’ Around to Me Again’. Truthfully, however, the entire album deserves your undivided attention. An absolute jewel from start to finish!
