Such a wonderful listen. So fragile, nuanced, and poignant. Introduced by a feathery grand piano, ‘Donne-moi’ materialises in this world like a nugget of comfort and hope, a cathartic piece of art with an elegant contour. Penned by Taliya Hafiz, the single soon rejoices with her evocative and luscious vocals, alternating between singing and spoken word. It’s quite magical, with the Paris-based creative managing to take the listener on an introspective and meaningful sonic journey. Written in French, ‘Donne-moi’ feels particularly passionate, a trait that’s often found in Hafiz’s artistic output.
Based in Cyprus, Taliya champions multi-language artistry, being fluent in French, English and Tartar. Her upcoming album ‘DESIR’ features a staggering seven languages, showcasing the cultural calibre of the talented singer. Notably, Hafiz is also a gifted composer and musician, making her a complete creative entity. That’s why her compositions feel so unique and authentic. Both the music and the lyrics emerge from the same rich and vibrant consciousness.
‘Donne-moi’ was written during Hafiz’s stay in St. Mary’s College, Durham. The solitude of her single room combined with the pandemic solitude created a very sombre and solitary moon, the perfect inspiration for such a delicate piece. Describing the idea behind the upcoming album, she explains: “It delves into the Universe of sensuality and romance in 7 languages of love”.
