Music can be a strong transformative tool, especially when we are feeling confused or demotivated. For Tala Yunis, music was a chance to show her true self, a powerful way of dealing with inner conflicts and self-confidence. Debuting last year with ‘Red Wine & White Lies’, the young talent gave us a glimpse of her potential, building a catchy and relatable pop gem with positive undertones. Now, Yunis returns with what’s a sort of new beginning, a newly-found artistic formula that sees her championing her true identity.
Being a Palestinian and living in Israel wasn’t easy, Yunis explains. “I was always trying to fit into a certain place with no success, only to find that the place I belong to the most is my music.” Now based in Brighton, she’s achieved what she set out to do: finding her artistic voice. ‘DWN’ is a direct product of that process.
A sleazy, modern and introspective number, ‘DWN’ navigates the best indie-pop, delivering a track that feels light, fresh, while being firmly planted in lyrical relevance. There’s a certain lo-fi character in the record, adding a soulful vibe and a charming tone – frankly, it’s quite irresistible. Celebrating the release, Yunis describes: “I am trying to show the world who my true colours are, and inspire more kids who love music like me but don’t have the foundations around them to build that passion. I want to inspire, I want to represent, and I want to show love… all through music.”
Tala Yunins manages to do exactly that – inspire us to persevere in our endeavours, knowing that – sooner or later – we’ll find what we are looking for.
