The Los Angeles-based synth-pop duo Clay and Kelsy made some rather large waves last year with the release of their gorgeously sultry and symphonic cover of Bob Marley’s classic ‘Three Little Birds’. The tune appeared in Apple TV’s The Morning Show and went to #1 on Apple Music’s Soundtrack Charts. Capitalising on that success, three singles followed ‘Three Little Birds’, but today I’d like to introduce you to ‘I am’, Clay and Kelsy’s brand new five-track EP.
Described as “a collection of intoxicating anthems of empowerment, self-acceptance, and the transformative power of introspection”, ‘I am’ is a thought-provoking and electrifying sonic adventure. ‘Insecure’ sets the tone perfectly, before ‘You Hurt Me’ steps up and seals the deal with a gooey piece of electro magic.
‘I Miss You’ is a deeply emotive, almost trance-inducing offering, and ‘Memories of Me’ is a song the pair says confronts listeners “with the fragmentation of self in the face of despair”. You see, each tune on the EP reflects a phase in the journey to self-awareness.
The title track also closes out Clay and Kelsy’s latest release, and you know the rules by now. Explore the song at your leisure…When the time strikes you…And with an open mind. All I’ll say is that I’m falling hard for this EP!
