This is a record we really like. ‘Hospital Gown’ aligns with our musical values: the perfect marriage between guitars and synth tones, rooted in new wave and indie references. It is dreamy, but not too much, and it manages to retain a strongly evocative and poignant character, with a touch of melancholia. Honestly, this is a great single, and we expect it to do well globally.
Behind it, we find Chicago-based outfit Swooner, a shoegaze outfit that didn’t believe in themselves enough… joking. As they confirm: “We tried to be a shoegaze band but we just didn’t feel dreamy all the time”. That’s okay, their identity is much more eclectic and transversal now, and we’d argue it’s more relatable. Their vocals are still pretty hazy though, and ‘Hospital Gown’ is indeed a record you can lose yourself to.
The single is taken from Swooner’s previously released EP, ‘Resolved’, which is well worth a listen.
