Superswell Return with Grunge Anthem ‘Drained’

There’s something unique about Superswell, a quality that seems to differentiate the project from the majority of their fellow rockers. In a world where eclecticism and elegance seem to have superseded fuzzy guitars and rough edges, the Brooklyn-based outfit embraces that very same grittiness, delivering material that’s hard-hitting, pure and plenty distorted. In a way, it’s easy to see hints of the grunge golden era; the same sleaziness and slow-moving punch Nirvana mastered so well.

‘Drained’ – Superswell’s latest effort – greatly reinforces that very same idea. A fantastic record which configures itself as a slow-tempo anthem, featuring raw vocals and unperfect saturation. The bridge section features orchestral strings, something that greatly enriches the song.

A great follow-up to an already productive year, ‘Drained’ continues Superswell’s successful streak, showcasing the immense potential the group seems to have. Speaking about the lyricism behind the single, they explain: “It is a reflection on pandemic-induced social isolation and burnout”.
