‘Haight’ is the dreamy and synth-filled debut single courtesy of Sugar Scars, a bi-national musical project consisting of two multi-instrumental DJs from Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. Intended as a clash of ideas by two different cultures, the tune is one the most intriguing new songs that I’ve heard all year. A fusion of indie rock, shoegaze, electro, and psychedelic elements all culminate in a blissful and mesmerizing soundscape that’s simply impossible to put a label on – just what we love around these parts!
Serving as the first single from Sugar Scars’ future album ‘Rhythmic Body Reactions’, the two artists mention that their new track is about, “an ideal situation on the dancefloor with someone that fascinates you, and results in two becoming one on the dancefloor in a moment of bliss”.
Deeply hypnotic and immersive, ‘Haight’ builds itself up slowly, intriguing and sucking the listener into the duo’s ethereal and transcendental sonic universe. A universe where boundaries between genres are nothing but a blur, and the listening experience is as cathartic as it is exhilarating. It’s pure musical genius as far as I am concerned, and ‘Rhythmic Body Reactions’ can’t come soon enough!
