I truly can’t think of a better way to round off the week than with the exceptional debut album from Fareham-based singer/songwriter Stuart Lawrence. Simply titled ‘One’, the twelve-track record has been a long time coming! “I recently discovered I have ADHD, that knowledge has helped me overcome decades of self-doubt and anxiety,” says the artist. “It’s still there, but I got to release an album!” I can completely relate, and I think that plays a big role in why the record is having such a profound effect on me.
The title track is also its opener and, personally, one of my favourite tunes on the album. An experimental and orchestral number that is just beautiful, it sets the tone perfectly. ‘Tanuja’ then follows and Lawrence maintains that rich acoustic feel. His vocals pull you straight into his world, and you feel fortunate to be there.
‘To The Limit’ is the record’s third song and unquestionably it’s most upbeat. Having been released as a single as well, it’s seen some decent numbers on Spotify so far! As for the remaining nine tunes off of ‘One’, I don’t want to spoil the fun of you discovering them for the very first time. All I’ll say is that this album is, hands down, one of my favourites of the year so far!
