“My music is a journey through my own private hell – warts and all”. These are the words of Panama-based guitarist and singer/songwriter Eddie Straw, who performs simply as Straw.
Candidly addressing his struggles with mental health issues and drugs, Eddie recently delivered a gritty and sincere piece of music called ‘Apartment 3513’. Raw, bluesy, and featuring an incredible, face-melting guitar solo, ‘Apartment 3513’ is as pure and honest a tune as one could hope to hear.
“‘Apartment 3513’ is about one of my crazy stories down the road to no return,” says Eddie. “Fuelled by anxiety and depression, I was willing to try any substance that could take me to a place where I’d forget who I was, just for a while”. A sadly all too familiar tale. Yet, in Straw’s hands, it morphs into a visceral and cathartic musical confession. True brilliance!
Working closely alongside bassist Kip Winger (Alice Cooper) and drummer Troy Luccketta (TESLA,) Straw headed to Soultrain Sound Studios in Tennessee to record his latest offering. As far as debuts go, it’s up there with the very best, and I’m certain we’ll be hearing a lot more from the gifted artist in the very near future!
