Emerging from Perth, Australia, Steve Hensby Band are a peculiar, if not unique music outfit. With a sound spanning many genres and attitudes, they are known for a feel-good quirky style, offering a slice of unknown to the listener. Bordering Funk, Pop, Blues and Rock, is there anything the Australian talents cannot do?
Originally debuting in 2020, they have recently returned to the music scene with ‘It’s A Dry Heat Ayyyye!’, a long album showcasing the full extent of the band’s artistry. Their latest single is an extract from the record, perhaps one of the best. ‘Righteous St’ is the medium through which we get to know the album, and we are confident to say it left us with a very positive impression.
After having listened to some of Steve Hensby Band’s past material, we had high expectations. Turns out, ‘Righteous St’ is exactly what we wished for. Genre-wise, the track floats between 70s pop sensibilities, soft funk and spaghetti western, all bathed in relatable and catchy songwriting. Introduced by a charming electric piano, the track proceeds aided by fuzzy guitars and horns stabs. Once the lead vocals come in, it’s a triumph! Getting lost in a sea of kaleidoscopic energy, the song conquers a stable place in the listener’s heart. What more would you want?
Overall, a worthy release from the Aussie band. Recommended!
