A charmingly punchy effort, ‘Beauty Queen’ sees Canadian outfit Star Persona engaging in relatable storytelling and friendly rock stylings, resulting in a sound that’s potentially appealing to a wide audience. You see, while the instrumental arrangement revolves around gritty and intense guitar work, busy drum parts and a plethora of euphoric riffs, the vocals take a different path, developing over simple melodies and pop-flavoured harmonies.
Headed by singer and main composer Claude Malette, the Ottawa-based project utilizes a collaborative approach towards its output, with Malette being joined by friends and local legends. ‘Beauty Queen’ is the result of it, and it couldn’t be catchier.
