Hailing from the vibrant Copenhagen landscape, sssiv are a particularly interesting band: sharing an ethereal, dreamy and expansive guitar-powered sound, the group explores the relationship between shoegaze and dream pop, all delivered with a distinctively ‘human’ ethos. Explaining how they aim to craft music that’s authentic and relatable – at least on a production level – the Danish outfit believes in collaborative work, sharing the compositional onus between all three members – Sara, Stephen and Sasha.
‘sssiv 1’ is the band’s latest album, a collection of hypnotising and texture-packed pieces. Oscillating between reverb, delays and fuzzy, sharp tones, the band’s end goal is a strange yet rewarding blend of iciness and warmth, perhaps the cultural exchange of their Nordic roots with a more global, Anglo-American outlook. The musical foundations are very relatable, with ssiv playing every single note you are hearing on the record.
That’s good news: at a time when production values are making almost every record unplayable live, ssiv reminds us that there’s still space for authenticity and honesty, also making their live shows a cathartic experience. In fact, we’d love to catch them live sooner or later! Speaking about the album, they explain: “As a band, we put our full faith in one another while making these songs, and we hope you can listen with your full faith and that the happiness that came with making this album can be heard through you listening device of choice.”
