Spyderhuff Returns with Cover Version of ‘Sympathy for the Devil’

Not a new face on our blog, Detroit rock outfit Spyderhuff has been championing their retro, classic style over a series of releases for the past year or so. The records were denominated SIN7, each themed around one of the seven deadly sins. We suggest delving into it, there’s a lot of eclecticism and brilliant musicianship to be discovered. What’s important to remember is that Spyderhuff actually completed the SIN7 instalments. Yet, we get served another charming single, a cover of the infamous Rolling Stone hit ‘Sympathy for the Devil’.

In it, the listener will once again rejoice in the talented band members’ sapient performances.  The group includes Tom Kuhr, Don Beyer, Tony Mitchell, Joey Gaydos, Julie Noe, Jim Dooley, and Janet Swanson, who together record a fairly faithful representation of what the song used to be. Of course, giving it the ‘Spyderhuff treatment’: wider sonic field, strong soul and blues references, and a slower, steadier structure.

Did we convince you? If not, we’ll quote the American band directly: “You might be ready for a hike down the bluesy back roads with old lifelong friends scattered across the country making music together any way they can.”
