Spirit Gun Unleash Gritty and Defiant EP ‘The Status Quo Must Go!’

“We look at it as a protest album”. These are the words of Spirit Gun, an energetic three-piece outfit comprised of Pete Overstreet, Oren Lev, and Tony Burgess. Hailing from Virginia, the band are describing their brand new EP ‘The Status Quo Must Go!’ – a ten-track offering that showcases the act’s unique blend of rock, punk, and even a pinch of soul.

Full of passion and zest, the gritty EP serves as an invitation to positively protest, whatever the cause or fight may be. “We are protesting the status quo in whatever form it takes,” says Spirit Gun. “But the status quo we are protesting might be different from the one you are, and we want to give everyone a place for their voice to be heard”.

While the opening two songs begin in a rather typical punk-rock fashion, the EP’s third and fourth tunes showcase a different side to the outfit’s sound. ‘Balance’ is a fifty-five-second piece of instrumental beauty, and ‘Stasis’ provides a hint of that soulful and moving vibe previously alluded to.

‘The Heist’ is a little gem that features a baritone saxophone played by Raul Perez, while ‘Stand 4 Nothing’ gives off an almost Black Sabbath attitude, leaving a lasting impression of bold, unapologetic defiance. All in all, it’s a cracking offering from a highly talented bunch!
