We’ve been following Canadian singer/songwriter Sophie Breton for over a year now, and her music offers such intimacy, that it’s created a connection that feels both personal and profound. Released earlier this month, ‘Blues Room’ is Sophie’s sophomore album, and a crowning achievement in her artistic career as far as we’re concerned.
Exploring the complexities of being in your twenties, and honing in on themes of love and self-discovery, Sophie takes listeners on a folk-centered and pop-rock-infused toasty journey. That pop element is perhaps best discovered in ‘Is Love Enough’, the record opener. A rich and intoxicating tune featuring a deadly electric guitar, it’s the perfect start to proceedings.
‘No Heart No Cry’ comes in with a gritty guitar and Breton’s velvety vocals, and eventually turns into a haunting track that stays with you after it’s over, before ‘Old Feelings’ beautifully signals a shift towards a more mellow soundscape.
That dreamy and peaceful vibe essentially continues for the rest of the ten-track album, as Sophie guides us through a reflective world where her introspective lyrics take centre stage. A stellar artist we couldn’t be prouder of standing by, Sophie Breton has, once again, delivered a masterpiece.
