Hailing from Los Angeles, the group stems from the collective effort of Sidewalks and Skeletons and CASHFORGOLD, teaming up to amplify their individual talents. It’s a formula that works, with ‘Dethereal’ showcasing all of the project’s strong points. The evocative, angelic and expansive female vocals, the lush, spacious guitar tones and lo-fi drums… everything screams perfection.
Let’s also be honest: soft siren are not reinventing the wheel here, they are not seeking to push boundaries or delve into the experimental. Yet, even among such classic shoegaze and dream pop tropes, one can find slices of futurism, the result of the evident culture shock between traditional influences and more modern elements. Such tension keeps us glued to our headphones, willingly subjecting ourselves to soft siren’s melancholic, decadent and mystic character.
