It is certainly not our first encounter with SLASHERS X Konrad Berger. Writing about the group’s bilingual effort ‘Frustrierte Menschen / Frustrated People’ earlier this year, we celebrated it as “delving into the intricacies of human behaviours, and the difficulties of keeping going when life gets hard”. Such nuanced lyricism is a feature of the project, often blending it with playful and uplifting arrangements.
Latest effort ‘Happy Again’ is the perfect evidence of that. On a seabed made of 80s-inspired Hi-NRG pop stylings, SLASHERS X Konrad Berger indulge in nostalgic storytelling, outlining the aftermath of a toxic relationship, and the desire to turn the page and embrace brighter times. The result is a quirky and catchy tune, a three-minute gem packed with flashy synthetisers, fierce guitar riffs and Berger’s evocative, dynamic vocals.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the piece, the group explains: “On the composition front, we wanted to compose a song with key changes like Stock Aitken Waterman used to do, but in a contemporary fashion”. Out now via label Valiant Horizon, ‘Happy Again’ is another impressive step in SLASHERS X Konrad Berger’s artistic journey.
