Bear with us: we know not everyone today’s a keen jazz listener. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a friend that thrives in the obscure-yet-electrifying American genre. And even if you were to find him/her, they’d probably be more familiar with crooners and vocal-based jazz formulas, not certainly with the pure, instrumental sub-genres.
Take Bebop, for instance. Emerging in the 1930s in places like New York and Chicago, its virtuoso-inducing character has truly shaped what we consider Jazz today. In that spirit, we came across a veteran of the scene, Sky Canyon, showcasing his latest record ‘Bop That Rhythm’. A classic Anatole-style standard, the track showcases Canyon’s fantastic musicianship, here the main character with his nuanced Vibraphone solos.
A veteran of over 50 years in the music industry, Sky Canyon is a composer, producer, and artist with a strong foundation in various genres of music. He has roots in jazz, rock, classical, Latin, and new-age territories, having been a principal percussionist in symphony orchestras. His passion for jazz began at an early age, and he has studied under jazz vibraphone master Terry Gibbs, which inspires his current musical creations.
