Creative action often needs personal motivation. It’s only natural then, for artists to shift in and out of creative phases following life and background changes. For Skimo, that meant taking a ten-year hiatus from music production, resurfacing only recently with the release of ‘Connected Memory’, an album that seeks to celebrate artistic freedom and a newly-found creativity.
It works; over ten tracks (one per year?) the British producer delves in and out of leftfield electronica, glitch-powered grooves and digital textures, offering an empathic and extensive window on his internal motivation, one that allows Skimo to pack the record with abstract yet emotional and meaningful matter. Talented songstress Ash joins the English maker on a few tracks, adding nuance and vocal-powered intensity to an already compelling album.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Connected Memory’, Skimo explains: “After years away from music, diving back into the creative process felt like I was digging through an old stack of records, piecing together the fragments of my old self with the wisdom I’ve gained along the way.”
