We had the pleasure of delving into SimplyRich’s nuanced artistry earlier this year, publishing an interview in which we praised his previous EP ‘thirsting again’ as “relatable and evocative, intense yet elegant”. We stand by our words: the Los Angeles-based talent has a great predisposition for meaningful songwriting and eclectic production value. That same eclectic factor is also the centre of his latest record, ‘Love, Simply, Vol.3’.
Featuring two singles, ‘King?’ and ‘Heavy’, the EP showcases the two sides of the same coin – the coin being SimplyRich himself. While ‘King?’ opens with a groovy and uplifting hip-hop character, follow-up ‘Heavy’ instead delves into ballad territories, empowering intense, anthemic and poignant songwriting together with melodic, malleable vocals.
It’s here that we can truly appreciate SimplyRich’s versatility, which is perfect at home in different settings and genres. Also, the whole record has been self-produced by him, too. Speaking about the connection between the two tracks, the American talent explains: “The phrase ‘heavy is the crown’ is the thread that connects these songs. We are each a king to ourselves, which is in itself a burden that we must bear with gratitude and humility.”
