Simple Sessions is a collaborative project that features various musicians mostly from in and around the Leeds/Yorkshire area. Known for their exceptional cover songs, they’ve just released a superb version of the tune ‘Nakamarra’, made famous by Hiatus Kaiyote. Featuring Mila Lee on vocals, Simple Sessions put their signature twist on the neo-soul, R&B classic, all while staying true to the original track. The line-up assembled to record ‘Nakamarra’ could not have been picked better, with Richard Hammond’s funky basslines, Jon Melville’s smooth keys, Alex Hogg’s gentle guitar work, and Steve Hanley’s jazzy drums.
Influenced and inspired by the likes of Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Emily King, Kara Marni, Jordan Rakei, and, of course, Hiatus Kaiyote, Simple Sessions have honed and perfected their own sound over the years. And, while still producing mostly cover songs, they always bring something fresh and authentic to the party.
With plans to record and release some original material later in the year, Simple Sessions is a collaborative project that is undeniably worth keeping an eye (and an ear) on! When you have consummate professionals at your disposal, there’s really no telling how far you can go. I see big things for Simple Sessions!
