I’ve been patiently waiting to share Shuzhen’s unbelievable new single ever since I got a sneak-peak at the track a few days ago. A remix of Malaysian-based act ARVAN’s tune ‘沙漠 (Desert)’, the neo-classical pianist and multifaceted producer completely reworks and reinterprets the song. It marks Shuzhen’s first venture into EDM and deep house music and, if this is a sign of things to come, we’re in for a serious treat going forward! Crisp and potent beats meet the delicate and soulful vocals of ARVAN’s lead singer Aki, as Shuzhen concocts a warm and atmospheric ambience that whisks you away and immerses you in the gentle embrace of afternoon sunlight.
Hailing from the city of Johor Bahru in Malaysia, Shuzhen’s influences include the likes of Ólafur Arnalds, Brian Eno, Imogen Heap, Hania Rani, and Flica to name just a few. I believe it’s this wonderfully eclectic and diverse range of inspirations that gives the artist her edge – and the ability to produce a unique yet magically distinctive sound.
I’ve fallen deeply in love with this otherworldly remix, gifted to us by a highly talented musician. I truly can’t wait to explore her discography further, and look forward to seeing what she gets up to next!
