It’s been ages since I last connected with a song so deeply whose lyrics I didn’t understand. You see, now and again, a track comes into one’s life that just envelops them, often for reasons unknown.
One such tune is ‘Silence’, the brand new single courtesy of Belgium-based singer/songwriter Shinogee. Sung in French, and with the help of Google Translate, I learned that ‘Silence’ is a contemplation of its paradox. “It’s easy to love the calm of silence,” says the artist. “But beware of slipping into its depths”.
Delicate and melancholic, Shinogee’s latest offering plunges the listener into a hauntingly beautiful soundscape of minimalist yet profoundly moving electro-pop. Unhurried and downtempo, ‘Silence’ drifts through the air in a reflective trance, stirring up emotions you weren’t quite expecting or even seeking.
Shinogee’s warm and soulful vocals provide the perfect complement to the ambient soundscape, creating an intimate experience that feels as if the song was written expressly for you.
‘Silence’ will form part of Shinogee’s forthcoming debut EP ‘La Fille du Miroir’, scheduled for release sometime early next year. Described as a “contemporary blend of indie-pop and electro with influences from RnB and French variété, it’s a record I simply cannot wait to hear!
