Shawn Brown is a Portland-based singer/songwriter we latched onto last year when he released an empowering single called ‘Road of Bones’. Then came a poignant jewel titled ‘The Sad Ones’, and we just knew we had a serious talent on our hands.
‘Into the Furious Light’ is Brown’s latest EP, and features two new tunes plus an acoustic version of ‘The Sad Ones’. First up is ‘Hold Fast’, so let’s dive in shall we?
Representing a shift in Shawn’s sound from a more folky, Americana-based sound to an upbeat, indie/alternative rock vibe, ‘Hold Fast’ showcases an artist unafraid of continuing his genre-bending sonic adventure. Expertly pieced together, it’s a cracking new track Brown can proudly add to his discography.
‘Let Them Love Ya’ is a rich and hauntingly delicate ballad that allows Shawn’s all-encompassing and deeply absorbing vocals to take front and centre before a stripped-back version of ‘The Sad Ones’ closes things out. A song we previously declared “exceptionally heavy on feeling” now resonates even more profoundly (if possible) in its acoustic form, as Shawn Brown shows us just what a gifted musician he truly is.
