Sharod Virtuoso is a multi-instrumentalist, Grammy-nominated producer, vocalist, and songwriter based in the mecca of hip-hop that is Atlanta, Georgia. ‘Favorite’ is his latest single, and his first release since 2020s ‘Just a Guy and His Guitar’ EP. On his brand new tune, Sharod soulfully explores the dating pool rotation of one’s life, and the realisation that you may not be the singular love interest of the person you are currently seeing. “I feel like that’s something that quite a few people, men and women, can relate to in this date and time,” he says.
Produced by a fellow bandmate of Sharod’s, ‘Favorite’ fuses contemporary and alternative R&B over a hip-hop beat and a neo-soul atmosphere. I have to say… it’s an instant classic! Fresh yet familiar, modern yet nostalgic. Just perfect! And, as for Sharod’s vocals, the words controlled, rich, and commanding come to mind.
Having grown up in church singing, and drawing on influence from the likes of Prince, John Mayer, Ryan Leslie, and Soulchild, Sharod Virtuoso has a lifetime’s worth of musical ability and knowledge to draw on. ‘Favorite’ is an absolute winner of a track, and I’m off to delve into the rest of his discography.
