Shape Of Water Returns with Sultry, Sweltering Gem ‘NAKED’

The keen reader will certainly remember Shape Of Water, a Manchester-based electronic art-rock outfit with a heightened love for evocative melodies and melancholic, emo-like lyricism. ‘NAKED’ is their latest effort, and it’s not all doom and gloom. While there’s certainly a wholesome somber component to it, the track also weaves in and out from funky guitars and punchy, cavernous drum grooves, even entering dancy territories and anthemic guitar solos.

Eventually, one has to surrender to Shape Of Water’s enticing eclecticism. Founded by Italian musicians Rox Capriotti and Luca De Falco, the project seems to have found a higher gear, and it’s now ready for lift-off. ‘NAKED’ is a sign of things to come, with Capriotti and De Falco building on an already extensive catalogue of like-minded offerings.

Lyrically, ‘NAKED’ is rather sultry and playful, with Shape Of Water recounting an impassionate, meaningful sexual experience. Such a light-hearted, sweltering theme greatly contrasts with the urgency of the vocal delivery, something that positively confuses the listeners, charging the record with intensity and dynamism. The chorus then explodes into pop euphoria, something that will make it palatable to a wide audience.
