Shannon Hawley Returns with Transformative Album ‘Starthrowers’

The keen reader might remember us featuring Shannon Hawley later this year. At the time, we were celebrating the release of ‘Mercy’ a stunning single we described as “a project that’s the opposite of ‘superficial’: it’s a deep dive into human consciousness and life, partly using her eventful and painful family history.” Lucky for us, Hawley is not done yet, teaming up with EDM producer NekterGun once again. The results are emotional and transformative, taking the shape of an ethereal and long album, ‘STARTHROWERS’.

In it, the listener can expect a deep dive into Shannon’s artistic universe, a place that’s not only musically enriching but also lyrically crucial. You see, Hawley is first and foremost a visionary, a soldier of the good, deeply connected to her womanhood and the regenerative force of nature. ‘STARTHROWERS’ focuses on celebrating “women, caretakers, and ancestors who have done the brave and often overlooked task of fiercely loving and caring for people, connecting the world like the underground mycelium network, and honouring the earth itself.”

Sonically, the record likes to jump from EDM-infused territories to more soothing and intimate folk settings, creating a signature style of this boundless concoction of sound. A particularly powerful album, to enjoy in silence and in the evening.
