We have been loyally following Shane Rennison over the past few releases. The American troubadour has certainly struck artistic gold: writing relatable, emotional and accessible pieces, the New York-based creative will easily connect with a large audience, also thanks to the contemporary and eclectic flair in his productions. ‘Irrational’ confirms it all: Rennison’s highly awaited latest album, the record offers a wide outlook over Shane’s rich and fierce songwriting.
Introduced by previous single ‘All The Scars’ (which we featured on Mesmerized), ‘Irrational’ continues its journey over pop rock extravaganza, even courting mainstream stylings (‘Draggin’ feels more like an R&B anthem). It’s a fine balance between groovy drums, country-like guitars and a plethora of electronic textures – even the occasion orchestral contour (‘I Think It’s You’).
‘Losin You’ is the perfect example of the eclecticism we were referring to previously. Over a seemingly vintage arrangement, a sea of textures and vocal effects help the project bathing in contemporary waters. It’s here that Rennison’s vocals truly shine, evocative, expressive and meaningful. An album that’s worth a listen – or thousands.
