There’s a deep sense of melancholia and nostalgia in ‘Trendelenburg Dreams’. Echoing the same gloomy and disillusioned character found in bigger acts such as Placebo – among others – the album offers a very personal and peculiar summary of everything Sentinel Events stand for. A dynamic outfit from Orlando, Florida, the group measures their distortions very carefully, keeping it polite yet supercharging the creepy and dark nature of their songwriting and compositional energy.
Episodes such as ‘Silent Aspirations’ are filled with spoken word samples and a slow-paced instrumental goo that feels cathartic, almost spiritual. Yet, the keen listener will be quick to point out how unique and intense such a formula can be at times. We are not complaining: further tracks, the likes of ‘Valladolid’, showcase a different side of the project, brighter and more playful.
Overall, ‘Trendelenburg Dreams’ is a complex and nuanced record that needs to be experienced. Speaking about it, Sentinel Events explain: “The vivid dreaming and hospitalization themes reoccur throughout the album, together with confessional-lyricism and satirical-storyline”.
