Listening to ‘Girls at Parties’, we instantly knew we were in the presence of an extraordinary band. Their style could be described as very modern indie goodness: organic, acoustic matter drenched in heartfelt lyricism and sublime vocals. The concept behind the track is very strong. Recalling tales of teenage partying and feminine solidarity, the track explores the raw, unfiltered angst and doubts that are so common in early life stages. Combining this lyrical matter with Shallow Alcove’s polite indie-rock shenanigans, the results are astounding.
Channelling contemporary references such as Holly Humberstone, Girl in Red and Soccer Mommy, the outfit headed by Dan Harris and Grace Krichbaum manages to build a personal sonic universe, one where they are the sole heir to our musical cravings.
From Syracuse, NY, Shallow Alcove is a band worth fighting for. Yes, fighting for. Even just for their ‘girl pop era’, as they define it. Originally debuting last year with the EP ‘Acting Tough’, they have since grown greatly, as you would expect them to. ‘Girls at Parties’ represents the latest iteration of their personality, which we adore. Where will they end up to? Only time will tell.
