Penned as a tribute to the great Nashville country ballads of the 80s, ‘Everything I’d Do (to Get a Hold on You) is the extraordinarily beautiful new offering from London-based chamber pop outfit Seafarers. A group led by acclaimed songwriter and saxophonist Matthew Herd, (Jacob Collier, Glass Animals) Seafarers is a six-piece act made up of some truly incredible musicians, and their latest single is one that has frankly blown me away.
A heartwrenching and deeply emotive piece of music, ‘Everything I’d Do’ is pure cinematic excellence. Whether it’s the delicate sounds of Tom Taylor’s piano, the stirring saxophone lines of Matthew Herd, or the poignant and soul-stirring vocals of Lauren Kinsella, (Snowpoet) the result is a hauntingly moving tune that lives within you long after it’s finished.
“I love artists like Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and Sinead O’Connor and find their music endlessly powerful,” says Herd. “‘Everything I’d Do’ came from trying to write a song that belongs in their world of heartbreak and yearning, but placing the story somewhere small and futile”.
Serving as the follow-up to their celebrated track ‘Bedwetters’, ‘Everything I’d Do’ will form part of Seafarers’ highly anticipated third album, scheduled for release sometime in October. A genuinely special band, I can’t wait to dive into their discography and discover a few more gems!
