It took us a while to fully grasp the artistic magnitude behind SANGINA. Boasting stunning, expansive vocals and evocative lyricism, the Los Angeles-based songstress is able to craft music that’s emotional and nostalgic. ‘MY MOTHERLAND’ is the perfect evidence of it. Built over a slow-paced ballad-like arrangement, the single is a luscious slice of mainstream pop with nostalgic flair.
Echoing the likes of Celine Dion and Whitney Houston, SANGINA continues the tradition of immersive female vocalists, showcasing a powerful, vibrant tone that’s frankly quite irresistible. Originally from Kazakhstan, she’s also able to include Asian influences to an otherwise Western-based sound. Such eclecticism makes the project stand out, although to be fair SANGINA’s vocal prowess is already special enough for that.
Speaking about the song, she explains: “For those who have moved away from their homes, the feelings of displacement, nostalgia, and dual identity are so powerful. Through this song, I hope to support and connect with those who are building new lives abroad while carrying their homeland with them.”
