Penned by Irish singer, songwriter and horticulturist Samuel Blaney, the record represents a fitting debut effort, a strong artistic manifesto laying the foundation of the project’s sound.
Inspired by the fragile world around him, Blaney builds a compelling bucolic panorama, often observing the passing of time with childish curiosity. It is this playful fragility that greatly empowers Samuel, making his music so wholesome and relatable. Produced by film composer Adem Ilhan, ‘Ember’ is one of those records we can safely lose into. Describing the inspiration behind his songwriting work, Samuel Blaney explains: “The songs were usually written in one take, recorded at dawn. Sometimes from a dream or vivid image, they are held together by the surrounding landscape which was silent and spacious. No lyric was prepared or written in advance; allowing a searching and vulnerability to form.”
