‘I Can’t Compete’ is the lush, bold, and cinematic debut single courtesy of French-born singer/songwriter Samantha Avalon. Currently based in Cambridge, England, the up-and-coming artist has crafted a haunting dark-pop ballad to introduce herself to the world with, and we are completely on board!
The tune brings to mind the immersive and captivating soundscapes of artists and acts like Lana Del Rey, Laufey, Agnes Obel, and London Grammar. Make no mistake, however, that Samantha is coming in with a fresh and distinctive sonic signature. From the sweetly delicate piano to the soul-stirring strings and everything in between, ‘I Can’t Compete’ establishes Avalon as a musician with a truly individual voice.
“I always felt that ‘I Can’t Compete’ was the first song I wrote where I found my voice,” says Samantha. “It never got released at the time, but it feels meaningful to share it now”.
The track will form part of the artist’s forthcoming EP which is being co-produced by French composer Alexandre Chaigniau. Alexandre has worked with indie-pop group Frànçois & the Atlas Mountains, so it’s safe to say that Avalon is in good hands! We simply cannot wait to hear more from this incredibly gifted musician!
